Aiken’s First Salt Room Is Coming Soon to The Hidden Trough Aesthetics

We’re excited to announce that a dedicated salt room is on the way to The Hidden Trough in Aiken. Powered by two Halo generators, it will be Aiken’s first salt room—designed for quiet, restorative sessions that support clearer breathing, calmer skin, and deeper relaxation.

What Is Halo Therapy?

Halo Therapy (also called dry salt therapy) uses a halogenerator to grind pure pharmaceutical-grade salt into extremely fine particles and release them into the air. You’ll simply sit back, breathe normally, and let the salt do its work. Unlike humidifiers or steam, the particles are dry and small enough to reach deep into the airways and settle gently on the skin.

In our room we will run two Halo generators so the salt is evenly distributed throughout the entire space, creating a consistent and effective session.

Benefits of Halo Therapy

Here are the top 20 benefits most often associated with dry salt therapy:

  1. Improved mucociliary clearance
Dry salt particles help thin mucus so it is easier to clear from the airways, supporting freer, more comfortable breathing.
  2. Better lung function
Studies have reported improvements in FEV1, FVC, and peak expiratory flow after a course of sessions.
  3. Reduced airway inflammation
Salt’s natural anti-inflammatory properties help soothe irritated airways. Studies, including research in children with asthma, have shown lower markers of airway inflammation.
  4. Support for asthma symptoms
Research suggests reductions in bronchial hyperreactivity and improved quality of life when used alongside regular care. A 2021 review highlighted its value as a supportive therapy.
  5. Support for COPD symptoms
Observational data and studies have shown gains in walking distance and quality-of-life scores.
  6. Easier breathing and reduced congestion
Many people experience less stuffiness and freer airflow thanks to mucus thinning. This is one of the most commonly reported benefits.
  7. Allergy symptom relief
Helps clear allergens and reduce nasal and airway irritation for greater comfort.
  8. Sinus comfort
Users often notice less pressure and easier sinus drainage.
  9. Calmer, healthier-looking skin
Fine salt particles settling on the skin deliver antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects that reduce dryness, redness, and irritation.
  10. Support for eczema / atopic dermatitis
Clinic reports show improvement for a majority of users after a course of sessions, linked to reduced bacterial load and stronger skin barrier function.
  11. Help with psoriasis
Many notice reduced scaling and inflammation with regular sessions.
  12. Acne-related skin calming
The antibacterial properties of salt support clearer, calmer skin.
  13. Deep relaxation and stress reduction
The quiet environment promotes deep relaxation. Most people leave feeling noticeably less stressed.
  14. Improved sleep quality
Easier breathing and lower stress support deeper, more restful sleep. Many report better sleep after sessions.
  15. General sense of well-being
Improved quality-of-life scores appear in respiratory studies. Guests frequently describe feeling refreshed and more balanced.
  16. Immune support
Antibacterial and anti-inflammatory actions of salt help the body handle everyday environmental challenges.
  17. Reduced coughing
Better mucus clearance leads to less frequent and less intense coughing.
  18. Support during cold and flu recovery
Helps ease congestion and coughing so recovery feels more comfortable.
  19. Athletic recovery and lung capacity
Supports respiratory muscle strength and recovery for active lifestyles.
  20. Overall anti-inflammatory effect
Salt’s properties deliver anti-inflammatory benefits for both the respiratory system and skin.

Sessions are usually 15–45 minutes, and the benefits build with regular visits.

Halo Therapy + Massage

Once the salt room opens, we will be able to add Halo Therapy to any of our massages. Pairing the two creates a deeper, more complete wellness experience. While the salt works on your airways and skin, the massage releases muscle tension and improves circulation. Many guests find the combination especially effective for stress relief, better sleep, and that overall “reset” feeling—leaving you both more relaxed in your body and clearer in your breathing. It’s a simple way to elevate any massage into a fuller restorative session.

What to Expect

Sessions will typically run 10–45 minutes. There’s nothing special you need to do—just settle in and breathe. The experience is simple and restful, and it will pair well with our facials, massage, or other treatments once available at our boutique med spa.
